Models of disability?

In this page we expand the subject  and look at models of disability.

The previous video describes one of the models of disability.  In this slide we expand on this and explain the additional Models of Disability that are a theoretical view of the ways we and society could view and approach individual or groups with disabilities.  These models have a "what effect" by creating a how we  could act and operate.

Watch the video to expand on disabilities and models of disabilities

Within society and for this case the Uk we have three ways at viewing disabilities

Models of Disability:

  • Social model- "How society and the world may disable"
  • Medical model-"understand what is not working, can it be fixed?"
  • Functional model-"what can i do", what is possible"

What is good operate practice and model for the delivery of inclusive sports.

As sports providers we as a primary are here to get people into the activity, This role does not require us to diagnose a disability (medical) but a understand the terminology e.g. using medical terms can be helpful. We are also not there as primary to change society attitude to someone's disability/impairment (social), But working with an individual and with what someone can do (functionally)

We have created inclusive activities though integrating and/ or  proving inclusive environment and sports based. thought his we can change the social issues of disabilities and may assist to improve people and medical wellbeing.
